Preliminary task - Process and Evaluation
Planning:
The planning of the preliminary task was done as a group where we created a mind map of our ideas which would then be used in the video. In the mind map we included the name of our video, the shots we would use, the names of characters and other things such as editing techniques. We did this so that when we filmed we weren't disorganised and already had what we wanted to do planned. We also created a script in which we wrote what each character would say during the dialouge section of the video. We did this so that, again, when filming we knew what we were doing, could be more efficient and not waste time.To be able to use the props we wanted we had to make our own. I used Photoshop to edit photos which would then be used in the filming so that the shot was more interesting and helped reinforce the story line.
Filming:
During filming we used a range of different shots and angles so that there was diversity in the final video. We also used the 180 degree rule in order to have good continuity of the shots and therefore an audience wouldn't get confused.
To improve the filming, I would have used a tripod for some of the shots so that they were more steady. We also did not have much time to film, therefore if I was doing this again, I would plan that we had more time so a higher quality of shots could be achieved. Also, due to the lack of time, we were not able to choose a preferred location and therefore items such as lights can be seen in the background of shots. To improve, I would choose a larger location and unwanted items would be removed from the background.
Editing:
During editing, using Adobe Premiere Pro CC, I put some of the shots together, helped add music and added the black and white colour to the images where needed. Firstly, I added music so that during scenes where there was no dialouge and unwanted sounds could be heard this was masked. I also added it so that the scene became more intense when needed or reflected what was happening in the shot. Secondly, as for using the black and white on some of the shots, I did this to reflect the sudden change from two people talking to two people fighting and add a sense of seriousness to the scene.
To improve the editing, I would have spent longer on it and once I had finished the first edit I would keep re-editing in order to improve. I would have also re-shot a few scenes in order for the editing to flow more as the transition between a few shots were 'jumpy' when I did not want them to be.
